To Say Thank You, Retired Teacher Gives Passionately…

We are thrilled to announce a very generous gift from retired MMSD educator, Pat Schiro, toward our new Teachers PETS Supply and Support program. With your help, Pat’s gift can have double the impact in helping this program provide critical supplies and support to our public school teachers.

Right now, because of Pat’s generosity, gifts given to our Teachers PETS program will be matched one-for-one, up to $10,000!

“I never doubted where I wanted my investment to go knowing how much I had spent on my classroom supplies every year. From Kleenex to ink cartridges, teaching materials to reward stickers, it all added up. I was fortunate to be able to afford those things out of pocket. Many teachers are not and those are the people I want to help. Having the things you need to do your job is so very important.”  –Pat Schiro, Retired MMSD Educator

Pat Schiro spent most of her 30-year career in Madison – teaching at both Sennett Middle School and La Follette High School. In 2003, then-Superintendent, Don Hafeman recruited Pat to be part of the Foundation’s efforts to work with retired teachers and the rest, as we say, is history. Pat has supported the Foundation’s mission passionately ever since.

We are so grateful for her most recent gift to our Teachers PETS program, and we join with every teacher and scholar in our district when we give a heartfelt THANK YOU!

On #GivingTuesdayNow, Let’s Give, for Teachers

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, many community organizations are encouraging participation in #GivingTuesdayNow – a push to support local nonprofits as they respond to the emerging and ongoing needs of the groups they serve. We are proud to share Pat’s story of generosity, and we hope we can keep it going all week long, and more. Can you join in the giving to say THANK YOU to Madison’s public school teachers?
